Fast Food Week: Quick Service Resto And Snacks News…

Valentine’s Day specials try to dominate the Fast Food News this week, but word that Wendy’s is getting back into the Breakfast business chain-wide trumps those announcements big time. There’s also an announcement from McDonald’s that it’s making Peanuts optional…

market test at 300 locations across the continent..

Wendy’s Breakfast set to launch in March

Wendy’s will start serving Breakfast chain-wide on March 2. They’ve been testing it at about 300 locations for a few weeks, now. Along with the usual Fast Food Breakfast fare – Breakfast Sandwiches, Coffee, and Breakfast Burritos – Wendy’s is also offering a Breakfast Baconator, a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit, and a Frosty-ccino Beverage. There are some quirks in the menu: some Breakfast Sammys will come on ‘Breakfast Rolls’ rather than  English Muffins, and they’ll be serving their regular Seasoned Potatoes instead of Hash Browns.

Hooters gives out free Wings to singles

Hooters is offering 10 free boneless wings to singles who come in with a photo of their ex, which will be shredded for posterity. ‘Shred ’em and forget ’em’ says the online shredding page the resto has set up so you don’t have to come in and do it ‘live’. Just upload a photo and you can digitally shred it, then claim a digital coupon for your 10 Wings, redeemable at any Hooters. Your free Wings can be ordered for eat-in or take-home. Either way, you’re eating alone on V-Day.

Olive Garden offers take-home Dinner for 2

Olive Garden doesn’t usually qualify for a feature in this space, but since its Valentine’s Day Dinner for 2 is a takeout deal, we’re making an exception. You can order your choice of Garden Fresh Salad or Homemade Soup plus Bread Sticks and your choice of Five-Cheese Marinara or Alfredo Dipping Sauce. Then, move on to either Five Cheese Ziti al Forno or Chicken Alfredo for the main. For dessert, you can have either Black Tie (Chocolate) Mousse Cake or Tiramisu. And don’t forget to order a signature Olive Garden Valentine’s Bread Stick Bouquet for your honey while you’re at it.

Dunkins Valentine’s Menu goes pink

Dunkins will be pouring a new Pink Velvet Macchiato, and a Pink Velvet Signature Latte for Valentine’s Day, along with adding limited-time Valentine’s Day-themed donuts including: the Brownie Batter Donut (filled with Chocolate Brownie-flavored Butter Creme and topped with chocolate icing); and the Cupid’s Choice Donut (a Bavarian Kreme filling with Strawberry Icing on top). Both are also adorned with Sprinkles.

Drumstick unveils new Cookie Crumb Ice Cream Bars

The guys who pioneered the Cone-in-a-Wrapper Ice Cream treat have added two new flavours to their Ice Cream Bar family: Crushed it! Cookies & Cream and Vanilla Fudge. These new treats differentiate themselves from previous Drumstick treats by their coating of crunchy Chocolate Wafer Cookie Crumbs. Two great taste combinations.

McDonald’s brings back the Shamrock McFlurry

Starting February 19, McD’s will be offering the iconic Shamrock McFlurry again (see photo, top of page), for one month only, in honour of St. Patrick’s Day. This year, a new version will feature OREO Cookie Crumbs whipped into the mix. For fans who haven’;t been keeping track, this is also the 50th anniversary of the Shamrock McFlurry. It may be the longest-standing limited-time special in Fast Food history…

McD’s makes Peanuts optional

McDonald’s has stopped offering Crushed Peanuts as a Sundae Topping in some locations. It’s up to each individual franchisee, but many have apparently chosen to go without the Goobers as a means of declaring their restos ‘Peanut Free’.

And that’s the skinny…

… On what’s going to be making some of us fatter this Valentine’s Day! See you back here in seven for another edition of Fast Food Week…
