Fast Food Week: Quick Service Resto And Snacks News…

A&W Root Beer - © A&WA&W will be front and centre this coming week celebrating National Root Beer Day!

National Root Beer Day is this week

August 6 is National Root Beer Day, and you can bet A&W will be celebrating big time. Drop in for a free Small Root Beer at the ‘Dubbs in the U.S. 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, no purchase required, but donations to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) are encouraged. No A&W close to you? Check out any Quick Service Resto (QSR) in your town that features the classic beverage, for commemorative specials!

Suddenly, Impossible Whoppers are everywhere

Well, they’re coming to all Burger King locations cross the chain, anyway. And how do they scale up so quickly from a pilot project so quickly? Impossible Foods partnered with one of the largest Meat processors in the business to manufacture its Burger Patties. This strategy also brings Impossible up to speed with – or catapults it ahead of – main competitor Beyond Meat in supply capacity. While Beyond has grabbed most of the headlines in the Veggie Protein sphere lately, it’s now officially a horse race…

Popeye’s features Buttermilk Shrimp Combo deal

Popeye’s is sneaking a Shrimp promo onto its menu in mid-summer, rather than spring, when they usually bring Shrimp aboard as a Lenten promo. The $5 Box deal includes 5 Crusted Buttermilk Shrimp ‘so big, you wouldn’t dare call them shrimp […] to their face,” plus a side and a Biscuit. Available at participating locations for a limited time – probably until Shrimp supplies run out…

Wendy’s offers a whole menu of deals

Almost every major player in the Fast Food game now offers periodic – or ongoing – deals for folks who download and use their smart phone ordering apps. But normally you get just one deal per promo. Not at Wendy’s. There’s a whole menu of deals on now, and you can only access it if you use the ordering app. Among the deals currently listed: $1 off any Entrée Salad, $2 off a Baconator Combo, and a free medium order of fries with the purchase of any Premium Sandwich at the regular price. But the big attraction right now is the offer of a free Wendy’s Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger with any regular-priced purchase. Just download and use the Wendy’s app…

Dairy Queen rolls out two new Blizzards

DQ has brought back its decadent Snickers Blizzard and débuted a new Snickers Peanut Butter Pie Blizzard as dual flavours of the month for August. The Snickers Peanut Butter Pie Blizzard features Snickers Bar pieces, Peanut Butter, and Graham Cracker chunks, all stirred into Vanilla Soft Serve. Both Snickers themed Blizzards are available until the end of the month.

Baskin Robbins features an OREO mashup for August

BR has created a new OREO Mudslide Ice Cream as its flavour of the Month. The Mudslide starts with OREO-flavours Ice Cream and stirs in OREO pieces and Fudge Ribbon swirls. The OREO Blast takes centre stage in a new Cappuccino Blast based on Espresso with Milk, Ice and Chocolate Syrup whipped in, and topped with Whipped Cream, Chocolate Syrup, and Oreo Cookie pieces. Available until August 31 at all BR locations.

Taco Bell drops Caramel Apple Empanadas

In yet another Dessert roster change, The Bell’s Caramel Apple Empanada – basically a half-moon-shaped Crispy-Crusted Apple Hand Pie – disappeared quietly earlier this spring, without fanfare. The Bell’s head office is, instead, touting its popular Cinnabon collabs, and other (remaining) Desserts. The move is right in tune with recent changes in menu and management style since the chain got a new CEO who promised new directions in marketing the brand.

An that’s the skinny…

… On what’s going to be making some of us fatter in the days and weeks to come. Back in 7 with another edition of Fast Food Week!
