HelloFresh, one of the biggest Meal Kit companies, has a vested interest in knowing how folks feel about home cooking v.s. Fast Food / Takeout or sit-down restaurant dining. So it’s no surprise they commissioned a study to determine how important home cooking is to their potential customers…
Home cooking and family meals are just as important now as they ever were…
Turns out that, even in our fast-forward, convenience addicted 21st Century world, folks massively prefer home cooking to restaurant grub. HelloFresh had pollsters survey 7,000 average consumers in a number of countries around the globe and discovered some interesting things about 9 key kitchen habits:
- Overall, 2 out of three people asked said they preferred home-cooked food over Restaurant or Takeout fare.
- 62 percent said they knew 15 recipes by memory. Only 2 percent said they knew 200 or more off the tops of their heads. But 50 per cent said they knew 50 or more recipes without referring to a cook book, and “are more likely to be considered sophisticated cooks by their friends and family.”
- People like to ‘multitask’ while cooking: 38 percent said they also listen to music, 28 percent said they have a drink, 28 percent said they have the TV on, and 26 percent said they dance. Yes, dance.
- Preferred multitasking activity, to ensure you get compliments for your food: Playing music, according to 28 percent of those polled. But 2 out of three asked said you’re more than twice as likely to have to apologize after serving the meal if you had the TV on. Distractions, distractions…
- 68 percent said they like to cook alone.
And…
- Canada came out tops on two issues, with 78 percent of those polled reporting they preferred home cooking, and tied in first place with Belgium for being most likely to clean up immediately after a meal.
