Fast Food Week!

Here it is, Saturday again, and time to run down the top stories from the Fast Food universe from the past week. With Valentine’s Day looming, players are lining up to tout their specials. But today is National Pizza Day, so naturally we’ll lead with that!

Pizza Hut Celebrates

The Hut is celebrating Pizza Day with a special that lasts all week. Until February 17, you can get almost every large pizza on the menu for just $10.99, for carry-out. The ‘almost’ means that you can get any large specialty Pie with up to 5 toppings, but extras over and above that will cost you. There’s also a surcharge for Stuffed Crust and extra Cheese. What’s your local Pizza source doing to mark the day?

Starbucks offers Valentine’s treats

Starbucks is rolling out a quintet of Valentine’s Day treats including a Black Cherry Mocha (available hot or iced, or as a Frapp), A special Valentine’s Cake Pop and a heart-shaped Sugar Cookie with glittery sprinkles. Only until February 14.

DQ brings back a Valentine’s favourite

Dairy Queen is bringing back its Dipped Strawberry Blizzard until the end of the month. It’s a mix of Vanilla and Strawberry Soft Serve  with Ghirardelli Chocolate Chunks. You can get it two ways: as a regular Blizzard or as part of a special Valentine’s Cupid Cake.

Baskin Robbins has a Valentine’s Sundae

BR is serving up a Love & Kisses Sundae for a limited time. It’s a Valentine’s Day gesture featuring BR’s flavour of the month for February, Cherry Cordial and Kisses Ice Cream. The Ice Cream chain is also offering a Hershey’s Kisses Cake, a heart-shaped ‘Banner’ Cake (decorated with your honey’s name and a message of your choice), and Pink Conversation Heart Cake. The latter is officially called the ‘Kiss Me’ Cake and looks like sa big SweetHearts candy with the Message ‘Kiss Me’ on top. The BR Valentine’s Day treats are available only until the big day.

Chick-Fil-A tests a dessert classic

CFA is testing a new Chocolate Fudge Brownie laced with Dark and Milk Chocolate Chips. I can’t think of anything better to follow up a Fried Chicken dinner. How can they go wrong? Nevertheless, they’re running the usual market test in the San Francisco, Miami and Richmond, Virginia. Hope to see this new item on the regular menu soon.

Wendy’s adds new, fancy Cheeseburgers

Wendy’s has added a new Made To Crave Cheese Burger selection to its regular menu. Offerings include the S’Awesome Bacon Cheeseburger, the Peppercorn Mushroom Melt and the Barbecue Cheeseburger. All feature a quarter-pound Burger Patty. The Bacon is ‘Applewood Smoked’ and the BBQ Sauce is ‘Kansas City Style’. These new Burgers are very similar to versions test-marketed over the past few months. They must have been popular…

Family ‘spat’ at Frito-Lay?

Chester the Cheetah – animated mascot for Cheetos snacks, has ‘released’ an online Hip Hop track dissing Doritos for releasing a ‘copycat’ Flamin’ Hot flavoured Chip. That’s a silly thing to do, actually, since Frito Lay owns both brands. But a pretty sophisticated marketing stunt, just the same…

And that’s the skinny…

…On what’s cooking in the Quick Service Restaurant world this week. See you all back here in seven for another edition of Fast Food Week!
