Fast Food Week!

If the tsunami of Fast Food sector advertising this month is any indication of what to expect the remainder of the year, the noise level is going to be maddening by next December. Let’s take a look at the top stories from the past week…

Watch as Gordon Ramsay is almost beaten by Hot Wings…

Popeye’s has new Boneless Wings deal…

Chipotle’s testing Quesadillas in Cali…

Chipotles Quesadillas - © foolibooli via instagramThe limited time test is on at a Newport Beach, Southern CA, Chipotle’s, and the rules are simple: Ask for any of Chipotle’s classic Meats (or just plain Cheese) as a Quesadilla.

Quesadillas are just about the only Tex-Mex delicacy not already on the main Chipotle’s menu. We hope Chipotle’s new, innovative top management is planning to add them permanently, across the chain.

Gordon Ramsay reduced to tears over Hot Wing challenge…

Fiery TV Chef Gordon Ramsay was finally reduced to tears recently…  By a Hot Wing. It happened on YouTube’s First We Feast channel, in a recent Hot Ones episode. The challenge was to consume a platter of ten wings, each dressed with a sauce hotter than the previous one. Ramsay began to crumble early in the game and, by the 7th wing, he was complaining of an elevated heartbeat and impending lower abdominal leakage. He described Wing number 8 as, “…like sticking your tongue in f*cking acid.” But he stuck it out to the end and spent the next few minutes applying Pepto Bismol and other anti-heat treatments to his mouth and gastric tract. Whatever else you say about Ramsay, he didn’t Chicken out!

KFC gets into the ‘comfort scents’ business…

Way back last summer, A1 Steak Sauce offered a selection of Meat Scented Candles as a BBQ season promotion. Not sure I’d want my house to smell like that, for too long at least. Now KFC is offering a candle that smells like its signature Gravy. Same reason, and I have the same issue with it. But there are catches… First, the things are only available in the UK (for now, at least), there are only 230 of the limited-edition candles available, and you have to enter a contest to win a chance to get one.

Historical Note: U.S. Military made two iconic snacks possible…

It’s finally been disclosed: Demands from the U.S. military for a Cheese product that wouldn’t go stale or moldy in the field led to the peacetime development of Cheetos. No kidding. And the military research effort that produced Powdered Cheese not only made the Cheetos coating possible, but also ushered in the age of Kraft Dinner. Two Pop Food icons for the price of one. Now you know.

And that’s the skinny…

…On the top deals that will be making some of us fatter over the next week or so. See you back here in seven for another edition of Fast Food Week!
