Fast Food Week!

We’re in mid-January, well into the commercial swing of things in this new year, and the Fast Food chains are busy trying their darnedest to get our attention by offering wild new menu items and specials, and bringing back tried-and-true treats we’ve already seen, lauded – and mourned when they were taken away after only a limited time…

OREO débuts Most Stuf version…

OREOs has distinguished itself over the past twop or three years by blasting out new Creme and Cookie flavours (and myriad combos of same). It’s also taken cautious steps in another direction, massaging the original OREO formula of Chocolate Wafers and Vanilla Creme. OREO thins were one attempt to differentiate the original Cookie from itself and other offerings. Then came OREO Double Stuff, which simply doubled the amount of Creme in each Cooke Sandwich. Now, following on the success of Double Stuff, OREO is launching Most Stuf OREOS – a limited edition, of course, and bound to return again and again over the coming years as a limited time treat When OREO deems it necessary to make a promotional statement. If you’re a Double Stuff fan – and who among OREO’s faithful isn’t? Get these while they last!

…And ‘Love’ edition for Valentine’s Day…

OREO is getting on the ‘special for Valentine’s’ bandwagon with two new limited time releases… The first is a classic OREO with ‘Love’ messages imprinted on the Chocolate Wafers. ‘Love, OREOs’ feature a special ‘Sweet and Tangy’ Creme filling upon which reviewers seem divided in their opinions. They’re av available  until February 14 at all the usual sources, so you have plenty of time to try them for yourself.

…on heels of Carrot Cake Love flavour

Take special note of the ‘Love’ part. This new limited time offering promises to be a hit, and it’s no mere coincidence it’s coming just in time for Valentine’s Day. Caveat: The price compares favourably with the traditional dozen Roses or a Box of Chocolates, but I definitely don’t recommend trying to substitute Carrot Cake Love for either of the latter.

Walmart offers valid challenger for your Valentine’s consideration

The Wall is selling a limited number of ‘Bouquets’ constructed from packs of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups for Vvalentine’s Day. They look like they’re pretty generously endowed with the Chocolatey, Peanutty confections. Walmart says each contains 36 packs of Cups. At (US)$45, the Reese’s Bouquet prices comparably with that small box of Godiva Chocolates or those Flowers you were also contemplating getting your one-and-only…

Burger King crowns new, even bigger Big King

BK has announced the availability of its new Big King XL Burger. It’s constituted as follows: 2 x 1/4 pound Whopper beef patties, American (Processed) Cheese, Sliced Onion, Pickles, Lettuce, and Stacker sauce on a toasted sesame seed bun. It replaces the former Big King which was a lot like a Big Mac, but without the redundant middle bun. No middle bun in the XL, either.

Taco Bell brings back Nacho Fries

Starting January 24, you’ll be able to order the Bell’s popular Nacho Fries at all locations across the land. As a ‘special’ gimmick, they’ll be available at a bare 14 Bell outlets scatted across the map before then, and you’ won’t be able to order them. They’ll simply arrive, as a random surprise, when you order your regular meal via the phone app. I don’t really see how this protocol achieves anything serious, marketing-wise. But it is a first among the attention-mad Fast Food chains, as far as a promo procedure goes.

Chick-Fil-A brings back amended Spicy Chicken Biscuit

If you loved the original CFA Spicy Chicken Biscuit, you’ll probably fall for the new Spicy Chicken Strip Biscuit, too. It differs from the original in that it features two Spicy Chicken Strips inside the same Biscuit, rather than a full Spicy Chicken Fillet. Just different enough to call it something new. Why? I figure they’ve discovered they an serve two Strips for less than it costs to serve a whole Fillet. That’s just how the Fast Food business works. As is the fact that you can’t rely on getting the menu items you really love at any FF joint for any more than a limited time per release. I feel manipulated, and I’m getting angry about this treatment. But that’s another story for another post.

7-Eleven Coffee deemed Strongest in Fast Food Sphere

Coming in second only to pricey Starbuck’s among the major brands, 7-Eleven’s regular Coffee ranks at the top of the street-level chains in Caffeine content. So says ‘sleep education’ website Sleepopolis, reporting on its recent survey and analysis of more than 40 popular Coffee drinks. Next in line on the descending strength scale among the neighbourhood coffee shops come Dinkin’s, Chick-Fil-A, Panera Bread, Tim Horton’s and McDonald’s, in that order. I always thought McD’s and Horton’s Coffee was a lot stronger than that… But that’s just me. And my judgement was based on taste, not chemical analysis.

…And that’s the skinny…

…On what’s going to make some of us fatter over the coming Valentine’s Day celebration. Back in seven with more essenetial news from the Fast Food sphere…
