Time again for your weekend review of all things sinful… from the Fast Food sphere. KFC takes the lead this week with a couple of quirky menu items, and Taco Bell and Pizza Hut throw deep discounts at us to persuade us to switch our Burrito and Pizza allegiances to their corporate flags…
KFC Chicken and Waffles: Belgian-style Waffles and Double Crispy Cicken

KFC hops on the Pickle bandwagon…
Pickle-flavoured menu offerings – both food and beverages – have crept into the consciousness of Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) operators over the past few months with some amusing if not totally enthralling results. We’ve seen a Pickle Juice Slushy and other interesting (?) Pickle-based concoctions, not to the least of which were Chicken-Fried Pickles (rounds of Dill Pickle wrapped in Chicken Skin and deep fried), Pickle-flavoured Popcorn and Chips and Pickle Popsicles.
Now KFC is now launching a Pickle-Juice infused KFC featuring a coating of Vinegary Pickle Sauce, with the flavours of Dill, Buttermilk, Onion, Garlic, White Pepper and Black Pepper. Then, the Chicken is dredged in the usual coatings and deep fried in the usual way. I kind of hoped KFC would brine its Pickle Chicken in the Pickle Juice, but I guess that would be too much trouble…
…Tests a Southern fave in North Carolina
Chicken and Waffles is a southern menu classic, for any meal of the day. And, now, KFC is trying out its version of the treat on North Carolina diners, well known fans of the dish. KFC is serving Belgian-style Waffles with double-breaded Chicken and a Sweet (‘Pancake Syrup’) Sauce. But you can only get them ’til the end of July at participating KFC locations in Ashville and Charlotte, NC.
Taco Bell offering deep discount Burrito deals
The Bell is cutting prices for a limited time this summer, offering a Burrito and Drink deal for just (US)$2. You get a Triple Melt Burrito featuring: Spiced Ground Beef, shredded Three-Cheese blend, and warm Nacho Cheese Sauce in a warm Flour Tortilla. In the deal, you also get your choice of any medium Fountain drink. The special starts tomorrow, nationwide, for a limited time.
Pizza Hut really, REALLY wants you to order online
The Hut is offering a limited time special to the tech-savvy: A large two-topping Pizza for just (US)$5.99. The catch is, you have to order online and pick it up yourself. For a limited time only, at participating locations.
