Mother’s Day Made Easy!

It’s Mother’s Day, and, if your family is like mine, Mother has always done a lot of the cooking. Today, however, is an outstanding exception to any such rule. But that need not cause fear and loathing among those who usually do NOT cook. There are a number of ways to make pampering Mom stress-free…

generations
around the grill and kick off Summer a little early!

Breakfast…

Pampering Mom first thing in the morning can be as easy as making the Coffee for her. Or, as complex as preparing her a full-fledged Eggs, Bacon and Pancakes platter. Whatever works, for your Mom or spouse, make sure to deliver it with a Rose in a crystal bud vase.

Lunch…

…can be a trip to her fave bistro or a favourite sinful treat. When was the last time you went to McDonald’s and actually splurged on a Big Mac and Large Fries? Once a year won’t hurt!

Supper…

If you’ve already made a reservation at a nice restaurant for supper tonight, you are among the tiny minority. If you are a member of the neglectful majority, forget it. Last Sunday was probably too late to get a table for tonight at the restaurant you’d like to have taken her to. But, as the sports fan say, there’s always next year. (Out it on the calendar NOW.)

Just order in…

The places you like for take-out will be extra busy today. Because all the guys who forgot to reserve at their favourite resto are going to be thinking of calling for Chinese, Pizza, or whatever as a fall-back plan. Call in your order as soon as the place opens and arrange to pick it up at a specific time. You’ll be at the top of the list for preparation, and you won’t have to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune (unknowable delivery times) that you might if you leave that chore to overworked delivery guys…

Get Grilling!

Mother’s Day is a natural for grilling. It’s a cool day here in Canada’s Capital, but I know for a fact that a number of my friends and neighbours are planning to grill tonight, even if they have to wear a parka on the patio. For a couple, it’s a hard and fast tradition – the unofficial start of the Grilling Season!

You can always put an impressive meal on the table simply by accompanying your grilled protein of choice with baked Potatoes (also done on the grill), and a simple, fresh Chef’s Salad or my Famous Confetti Cole Slaw. You’ll probably be forgiven if you don’t make your own dressing. And, if you go with bottled stuff, you can set out all the different dressings you have in the house so everyone gets what they like. It’s too early for fresh Corn on the Cob here, but there may be parts of the world where it’s available. If that’s your part of the world. be sure to get some and wrap cobs individually in foil with Salt, Pepper and Butter for grilling.

Go out NOW to make sure the grill is in good operating condition, and that you have a full tank of gas, if that’s your fuel.

See?

I told you Mother’s Day could be stress-free and satisfying for all involved…
