Fast Food Week!

The seasons, they go round and round… And the weeks speed by. It’s Saturday, again, and that means it’s time for our Weekly Fast Food News roundup. This week, there’s been more news from Dunkin’s, Krispy Kreme and Taco Bell, along with a big launch by Kit Kat featuring Ruby Chocolate…

Kit Kat turns colour

I’ve posted, previously, about a new kind of Chocolate that’s just now being commercialized – Ruby Chocolate – and I said, at that time, that it wasn’t yet ready for prime time. Well, Kit Kat says now is prime time, and it’s débuting Ruby Chocolate Kit Kats around the world. Except in the U.S. Why? I don’t know. Maybe they have to ramp up production to properly serve the anticipated home market!

Dunkin’s drops ‘Donut Fries’

As you, might expect, Dunkin’s new Donut Fries are sticks of Doughnut Dough, rolled in Cinnamon and Sugar. Can you say ‘Churro’? I thought you could. They’re now being tested in a very narrow market – three Boston area stores – on the $2 Snacking Menu.

Krispy Kreme adds new flavours…

The self-proclaimed king of Doughnuts, Krispy Kreme, is continuing its new flavour launches with two more: The Nutter Butter Cookie Twist and the Chips Ahoy. You can guess what they each taste like. They’ve also brought back the Oreo Cookies and Kreme Donut, an un-glazed shell doughnut filled with Oreo Cookies and Kreme , dipped in dark chocolate icing, and topped with Oreo cookie pieces and a drizzle of “white ‘n glossy” frosting.

Cheetos Popcorn exposed at selected American cinemas

Cheetos Popcorn is now playing at Regal Cinémas across the States. It’s basically a mixture of regular Cheetos and Popcorn tossed in Cheetos Cheese Flavouring. It’s served cold (room temp), they tell us. No explanation, but I assume that’s because the Cheese Flavouring would melt (it’s sprayed on as a liquid at the factory), and it makes for pretty messy fingers dry, as it is. One reviewer who has tried the new combo complained of ‘flavour fatigue’ by the end of the bag. But Cheetos fans will likely flock to Regal to get it.

Taco Bell tries yet another Shell

The Bell is launching a new Breakfast Taco shell they call ‘French Toast’. It’s the hand warmer for the new French Toast Chalupa, a fusion of sweet and savoury featuring: Scrambled Eggs, Bacon or Sausage, and syrup on the side. That sounds a little like the late, lamented Waffle Taco. Except it doesn’t have any Cheese.

Korean Domino’s Fans get special treat

Domino’s Korea is now selling a new treat that looks to be part Pizza Pocket and part Banh Mi… The menu item is called a Pizza Burrito and features Wagyu Beef. Actually, you can choose the Beef or Pulled Chicken. The Beef version comes with, Bacon, Arrabbiata Sauce, Romano Cheese, Cream Cheese, Mozzarella Cheese, a Brie Cheese Sauce, Red Onion, and Green Peppers. The Chicken version features Mozzarella Cheese, a Béchamel Cream Sauce, Raclette Cheese Sauce, Red Onions, and Green Peppers. No word what they’re charging for these elaborate goodies…

And there, once again, you have it…

…A very select selection of the most important news items to surface on the Fast Food Beat this past week. See back here in seven for another installment!
