St. Patrick’s Day revelry: Everybody gets into the act…
Go Green today!
Today is St. Patrick’s Day and it’s traditional for food and beverage purveyors to turn their products green for the day. Explore your neighbourhood and enjoy this once-a-year treat. Starbucks and Baskin Robbins are celebrating with green beverages and Krispy Creme is offering green-glazed Doughnuts. Many other food service and retail outlets will be playing, too!
Win a years’ free Dunkin Donuts!
Twelve lucky Dunkin’s fans will win a year’s worth of their fave Doughnuts just for Tweeting a pic of themselves showing how they celebrate St. Patricks Day. Winners will also get a free trip to Dunkin’s HQ – presumably for a promo event. Entrants must be American citizens 18 or older. Plus, Your Twitter account must be public and you must be following Dunkin’s. And… You must post the hashtags #DDLucky Dozen and #Sweepstakes with your photo. And you thought it was going to be easy!
Krispy Creme launches new Nutella-filled Doughnut
It’s a regular-looking ‘Original’ Krispy Creme on the outside. But inside there’s more than a smidgen of Nutella. How they get it kin there, I just don’t know. I also don’t know why this delectable snackable is only available in the Dominican Republic. It’s bound to be a hit. When can we expect it to show up here in North America?
McVegan Burger a big hit in Finland
McDonald’s recently test marketed a Vegan Burger in Finland – of all places – and the Finns ate it up! Now, the McVegan will be added permanently to the menu there. The McVegan features a single Soy Patty, topped with Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickles, Ketchup and Mustard. Pix I’ve seen show it stacked on a Sesame Seed Bun. That’s all pretty standard McFare, except for the Soy Patty. So… When can we expect to see the McVegan offered in North America?
Taco Bell Fries hit big
The Bell lost an innovative and energetic CEO to Chipotle’s recently, but that doesn’t seem to have slowed them down at all. Taco Bell says their new Nacho Fries are their most popular launch ever, even bigger than their beloved Doritos Locos Tacos. Since Nacho Fries were debuted January 25, more than 53 million servings have been sold. Too bad they’re only here for a limited time (until early April). Maybe, considering their popularity, Nacho Fries will come back soon as a permanent addition to the Taco Bell menu!
Sonic adds wild seasonal Slushies for Summer
Sonic Drive Ins will feature new seasonal Slushies this summer, in some wild flavours including Bahama Mama, Blue Hawaiian, and Tiger’s Blood. But the wildest and most daring taste sensation of all will be the Pickle Juice Slushie, just unveiled at Sonic Headquarters to a select group of Food Journalists. We’re told the Pickle Juice Syrup used in the Slushie will counter the acidity of the Juice with enough Sugar to bring the whole thing into a pleasant balance. Bahama Mama for me, please.
Dairy Queen celebrates Spring with free Cones
DQ is once again (for the fourth year in a row) celebrating the arrival of Spring by giving our free small soft serve Ice Cream Cones on the first day of Spring, this coming Tuesday, March 20. Just walk in and ask for one. No purchase or donation is required, but a donations will be accepted for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
