Fast Food Week!

It’s that time again… And the Fast Food sector did not disappoint this past week, with a flurry of new menu item announcements and the return of some old favourites. But the big news for folks with little kids is, the new FDA-approved next-gen Kinder Eggs are now available, just in for Christmas!

Arby’s brings back the Pork Belly Sandwich…

Like so many of the most beloved Fast Food menu items these days, the Arby’s Smokehouse Pork Belly Sandwich was available for a limited time only when it first appeared. Not its back! The sammy consists of extra-thick cut, Hickory-Smoked Pork Belly, Smoked Cheddar Cheese, BBQ Sauce, and Crispy Onions on a toasted Bun. I have to admit, This one has a little too much smoke for me, but…

…And introduces a new Smoked Chicken special

The guys who call themselves the masters of meat have also announced a new Smokehouse Chicken Sandwich. It’s similar in concept to the Pork Belly sammy: sliced Smoked Chicken Breast, Pepper Bacon, Smoked Gouda Cheese, Crispy Onions, Mayo, and BBQ Sauce on a toasted Bun. A lot of flavours, there… I could do without the Bacon and take a double hit of the Mayo to take the smoky edge off a bit…

Tim Horton’s reveals its 2017 Holiday Menu…

There’s the rundown:

• Peppermint Hot Chocolate
• Cinnabon Iced Capp,
• Cinnabon Latte
• Holiday Sugar Cookies in gingerbread and snowman designs to match the chain’s holiday cups.
• Chocolate Brownies,
• Red Velvet Muffins
• Gingerbread Donuts and Timbits donut holes.

…And you can get your beverages in new Holiday themed cups. Special offer: Buy any Latté and get a knitted ‘Ugly Sweater’ coffee cup cozy. They call theirs a ‘Koozie’. Alas! Koozies are only available at select locations in Detroit, MI, Columbus, OH, and Buffalo, NY, while supplies last.

Taco Bell is bringing back Rolled Chicken Tacos

They look like long open-ended Egg Rolls to me, but they’re really marinated, shredded Chicken rolled up in a Corn Tortilla and fried. You get your choice of Guacamole, Nacho Cheese, or Spicy Ranch Dipping Sauces. I didn’t have a chance to try them on their first limited time appearance, but, at a buck apiece, they sound like a good deal.

Dairy Queen launches Barbecue Cheeseburger Lunch deal

DQ’s popular Western Barbecue Cheeseburger is now available – for a limited time – as the centrepiece of a new addition to its (US)$5 Lunch Menu. The Burger itself features a a standard Grilled Beef Patty, American (Process) Cheese, Applewood-smoked Bacon, Crispy Onion rings, and BBQ Sauce, all on a toasted Bun. The combo includes the Burger, Fries, a 21-oz Drink, and a Small Sundae. Good deal.

Kinder Eggs are finally coming to he U.S.!

We dedicated a whole post to this issue some time ago, when the move was first announced, but now they’re here – just in time for the Holidays and Christmas Stocking stuffing! Just to recap: Kinder Eggs had been banned in the U.S. because the small toys inside the hollow Chocolate shell were deemed choking hazards for children. Now, a new generation Kinder Egg is rolling our (pardon the pun), on e which keeps the edibles completely separate from the playables. And the toys are now considerably bigger! The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says that’s acceptable. But imagine all the old Kinder Eggs that were confiscated at the border, coming in from Canada in years gone by… A crying shame to waste all the Chocolate!

And those are my top Fast Food picks for this week…

Get thee to a Burger joint and enjoy some of the new offerings!
